Quantified Self

Today, I share with you a personal milestone: I recently completed over 250 “recorded” hikes!

Hiking Stats since October 2011
Since October of 2011, I've hiked 1986 miles and climbed over 563,000 feet. That's the equivalent of walking from San Francisco to Chicago or climbing Mt. Everest from sea level 20 times! Along this journey, I've summited Mt. Kilimanjaro, Mt. Whitney, Mt. Shasta, White Mountain, and Half Dome and Clouds Rest in Yosemite. While these are just a few of my most memorable hikes, you can find a few more of my experiences on this blog site: http://newyuhiker.blogspot.ca/. Also, check out one of my first milestones.

Using technologies like Wellcore PERS, NewYu fitness, and recently iPhone apps I have been tracking my walks since the mid- 2010s and have accumulated over 18 million steps. I average 7192 steps or 3.5 miles daily. That's more than 8900 miles this decade OR slightly more than flying from San Francisco to Mumbai over the Pacific Ocean. I find it amusing that I could visit family in India by just walking - given a few years, of course.

I feel accomplished. Every step I've taken, every hill and mountain I've climbed, every weekend I've spent trekking long and far or even just on Mission Peak has become my way of life. It's a part of who I am. But it now strikes me that I've hiked more than I could ever have imagined just 7 years ago.
